Frequently Asked Questions.

What is a lowest-bid auction?

The winner in a lowest-bid auction is the one who has placed the lowest unique bid. The lowest unique bid refers to the lowest bid which no other participant has placed.

Who can participate?

Anyone with a UK-based mobile phone number over the age of 16 can place a bid.

How do I participate?

In order to participate in an auction you have to place a bid. This can be done while the auctions are running. You place a bid via SMS using your mobile phone. You must text the keyword of the product you wish to bid for and your bid in pence value (TV 142). The keywords are not case sensitive.

Can I place more the one bid in one SMS?

No, you can only place one bid per SMS.

Do I need a special phone to place a bid?

No, all you need is an SMS compatible mobile phone connected to a service provider who permits text messaging to premium SMS numbers.

Which mobile networks can I send an SMS from?

We are currently working with Virgin Mobile, Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange, O2, 3G UK and Tesco Mobile.

How do I place the lowest unique bid?

66299.co.uk is based on a computer program which automatically monitors all of the bids that are placed. When a bid is placed and at the end of an auction the system scans all of the unique bids, and then a second scan is done where the lowest of these bids is found. The challenge to the bidder, which is a challenge that requires skill, is to place a bid on a unique number, but a number that is still very low.

What happens if my bid is the lowest unique bid at the end of the auction?

After the auction has ended you will be contacted by text and given a customer service number to call (0844 8801940). When you call we will then collect your contact details and subsequently send you an invoice based on the amount of the bid that you have placed. The product you purchased with your winning bid will be delivered to you with the invoice. The invoice is based on the amount you have placed + shipping costs. Please make sure that the address stated in the invoice is correct. The auction item will be delivered once you have provided payment.

How do I pay for the product?

You can pay for the product after our support team has contacted you and asked you to contact us. The payment can be done via credit card, postal order or cheque.

What is the delivery estimate for the items on auction?

Items are normally delivered 14 days after the invoice has been paid. All items are delivered by courier to the address provided to our support team.

When do the auctions start and when do they finish?

New items are continuously listed at 66299.co.uk. The auctions close at specific dates which are stated on the website under the product listings.

What happens if there are no unique bids?

The first person to have placed the lowest value bid with the least number of bids on it will then win the auction.

How much does it cost to place a bid?

The bidding fee is the cost of the premium rate SMS which is £1.50.

What is a minimum price for a product?

Some higher value products might have a minimum bidding value associated with them. This value is the lowest value you can bid for in case of that particular product. Any bids below this value will not be recognized by the system.

I have sent a bid-SMS, but have not yet received a reply. Have I been charged?

When your SMS has been registered with 66299.co.uk's servers, a reply message is automatically sent to you. This reply message will usually arrive within a few seconds. Should the reply SMS be delayed, it is most likely due to technical problems or delay issues with your mobile phone service provider. In some cases, the reason that the SMS is not delivered is due to the fact that chargeable services may not be available on your particular subscription or top up card, or, you simply do not have enough credits on your card to cover the cost.

If I place a non-winning bid, do I still have to pay the amount I have offered?

No, just as in a normal auction, only the winner of the bidding pays for the item.

Is the amount of my bid debited to my mobile phone account every time I place a bid?

No, only the delivery expense + a mobile service provider fee (if any) is deducted from your mobile phone account. The winner is contacted and pays an invoice according to the above-mentioned.

If I place a bid which is too high, can it still be the lowest unique bid at the end of the auction?

Yes, the lowest unique bid changes during the course of the auction, which means that the amount which is currently the lowest unique bid, is not necessarily so at the end of the auction.

Can I place a bid in Pounds or only in pence?

We only allow bids in pence.

Is a lowest-bid auction in fact a form of lottery?

No, a lottery operates on pure chance. In a lowest-bid auction, the participant can affect the course of events and thereby also the result.

Is it possible to participate in the bidding even though I have a hidden mobile phone number?

Yes, it is possible to place a bid with a hidden telephone number.

Is it possible to participate in your auctions even though I have a foreign mobile phone number?

No, as of today, it is only possible to participate with a UK-based mobile telephone number.

Are the products second-hand?

No, every item is brand new
